The Conejo Grade is the winding section of the 101 freeway connecting the Conejo Valley (Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village) with Camarillo. Over the course of 2.3 miles, the road drops more than 700 feet and forms the unofficial boundary between east and west Ventura County.
I found the perfect place to photograph the road sometime in the spring of 2011. I realized that the best shot could come near sunset and with a lot of traffic to create streaks of light. I did some calculations and concluded my best conditions would be the following January.
And that’s when this photo was taken. I shoot stock photos of Ventura County and sell them via a separate website: venturacountystockphotos.com. I never know how these images will be used.
This last Christmas, Mayerson Marketing working with Elena Trevino Design, created a holiday card for the Roadrunner shuttle. They started with my image and created a new sky and added some other fun touches — pretty cool!
