Sometimes you plan a photo shoot, other times you stumble into one. I had just finished an assignment in downtown Ventura and decided to check the Santa Clara River estuary (near Ventura Harbor) for birds. I have had good luck at that location.
Birds were mostly MIA, but I noticed a lone kite-surfer taking advantage of a strong south wind and took a series of shots with my 6.7 pound beast of a telephoto lens.
Soon enough, the surfer came ashore and asked if I could take some photos for his use. I gave him my contact info and watched him return to the water.
Here is how it turned out.
