Last October I went out with a group of student sailors from Cal State Channel Islands. It was a windy day and choppy, which meant I got saltier as the afternoon wore on. These two students in the photograph were very skilled sailors and perfect models. Anything I asked of them, they were able and willing to do. Gotta love it.

It was a busy shooting day. Back on land, I took a quick horse bath (my own personal desalination), changed clothes and headed over to the Bard mansion to photograph the 50th anniversary celebration of the Port of Hueneme. The Bard mansion is a grand old house on land now encompassed by the naval station.
The keynote speaker was Commander Kirk Lippold, who was commander of the USS Cole when it was attacked by suicide bombers in the port of Aden, Yemen in 2000. His account of what took place that day was stirring.
